How does adoption of labor saving agricultural technologies affect intrahousehold resource allocations? The case of push-pull technology in Western Kenya

Considerable research documents why women farmers have lower technology adoption rates than men farmers, but relatively little is known about what happens within a household after uptake. This study contributes through an investigation of the intrahousehold distribution benefits and costs agricultural in western Kenya. Using gender-disaggregated data endogenous switching regression approach, we elucidate causal effects push pull (PPT) on labor expenditure allocation. Results show that increases allocation for harvesting maize, staple crop, reduces required other tasks (e.g., ploughing weeding). In net, saving, with experiencing slightly greater workload reduction women. terms impacts, PPT uptake expenditures children’s education consumption goods commonly associated female preferences. Study findings support wider to trigger gains social economic wellbeing both farmers. Implications policy practice are discussed.
